How to Fix Guttering

In order for rainwater to run freely, you should allow a fall of 1:350 towards the outlet

Step 1- establish the position of the running/stop end outlet, hang a plumb bob from the fascia so that it hangs over the drain
Step 2- put a pencil line to mark the positioning of the outlet and its fixing holes on the fascia, make sure it is no more than 50mm below the roof level, then drill pilot holes and fit the outlet
Step 3- Measure from the outlet to around 100mm from the opposite end of the fascia. Position and fix a fascia bracket here, make sure it is higher than the outlet and the fall to the outlet is around 3mm per metre. If your outlet is positioned in the middle, repeat this on the other end.
Step 4- tie a sting or brick line from the fascia bracket(s) to the outlet and pull it tight. Use a spirit level to check the string runs slightly downhill
Step 5- Using the fitted bracket, measure and mark the position of the remaining brackets, they should be just touching the string and shouldn’t be more than 1m apart, and shouldn’t be more than 150mm from any angle or stopend. Fix the remaining brackets
Step 6- Lubricate the gutter seals with a silicone spray before fitting. Work from the outlet to the highest point. Fit the first length of gutter by tilting it so it sits beneath the back clip, push it down at the front until it “snaps” into position
Step 7- Fit a union bracket by screwing it into the fascia at the end of the first piece of guttering. Fit the next section of guttering into this bracket. Make sure the joints line up with the insertion depth that is marked onto the fittings.
Step 8- Repeat for the other lengths. Then measure the final gap, and use a hacksaw to gut the guttering to the correct length
Step 9- Fit an external stopend to complete this gutter run

How to Fit a Downpipe
Step 1- Use a plumb bob that hangs from the outlet to the drain as a guideline, Draw on the wall where the downpipe will run, using a straight edge/ level draw a vertical line
Step 2- If you need an offset, use either an adjustable offset or two offset bends and a piece of pipe, make sure there is a 6mm gap left at the top of the downpipe for expansion
Step 3- Start at the top of the wall, and place a downpipe clip central over the vertical line, mark where the fixing holes are and continue down the vertical line, with spacing of no more than 1.8m between the pipe clips
Step 4- Use a combi drill and the drill size bit recommended by the manufacturer to drill the fixing holes. Insert the appropriate wall plugs
Step 5- Starting at the outlet, fit the first piece of downpipe, working your way to the drain. If you need another length of downpipe use a downpipe socket to join the two. Leave a 10mm gap between the end of the pipe and the bottom of the pipe socket to allow for expansion. Attack a pipe clip over the joint.
Step 6- Continue to attach pipe clips all the way down and if required fit a downpipe shoe to direct the flow into the drain.
